Hi Victoria,
Thanks for reply
I have checked the QAS_BS.log file. Object name is correct.

Hi Gaurav,
I have checked the system log, there was no any error found related to this issue.

Mahendr
Have you also checked the TSM server/client Errorlogs ?
Can you please take the backup from source database again on Tivoli device as well on file system.
Please check if you are able to load it on the target database using both files one by one.
This way , the problem can be isolated.
Hi Sharad,
The error 840 is informing you the mentioned device/file cannot be accessed, that means, not existent file or not enough permission to access it.
So as mentioned by Hans and Gaurav, please ensure that those devices exists and which is the owner (they should be owned by "sybsid" user):
"/sybase/SID/sapdata_1/SID_data_001.dat",
"/sybase/SID/sybtemp/tempdbdev.dat"
Then retry starting the dataserver (always as user "sybsid"), status should be ok.
If they do not exist, I would expect you have some cold backup of your installation.
If you want to start the ASE by executing the RUN file you need to be logged at OS level as "sybsid"
Otherwise as sidadm user you can use the "startdb" or "startsap db".
Best regards,
Victoria.
Dear Mr Singh ,
What is your ASE and backupserver version ?
I vaguely recall some issues with TSM that are fixed in later ASE releases. So it might be worth to giv it a try and download latest patch for ASE version , install it in the sandbox and retry.
(it is not necessary to upgrade QAS as well LOAD DATABASE should work on a newer patch of ASE)
Next : Do you use compression , ie.syntax : "DUMP DATABASE QAS .... WITH compression = <n> '
If so , give it a try and check whether omitting compression does help.
If that helps, I suggest to open a ticket at SAPto followup on this - LOAD should work even with compression.

Hi Stefan,
Based on your file download you are trying to upgrade from ASE15.7/SP122 to ASE16/SP01/PL02 which is not allowed. Please refer to note: 1554717 - SYB: Planning information for SAP on ASE" and either upgrade to ASE16/SP00/PL03 or first upgrade to SP135 and then use this file to upgrade to ASE16/SP01/PL02.
Thanks,
Manhar
Hello,
An upgrade from ASE 15.7 SP135 to ASE 16. SP01 PL02 will also fail, for same bug compatibility problem, see KBA 2231176 - SAP ASE: Error during major upgrade from SAP ASE 15.7 SP135 to SAP ASE 16.0 SP01 PL02
So, if this upgrade is not urgent, the best is to wait for the PL03.

Would you please suggest me any doc to do dbcopy-restore from PRD to QUA in same env
Thanks in advance
Are you trying to execute SYBASE.sh (SYBASE.sh), or source it (. SYBASE.sh) ? [I normally source the file => . SYBASE.sh ]
First you want to find the linux login that owns the file, and the permissions on the file:
ls -l SYBASE.sh
Find someone with the password to the linux account that owns the file and ask them to modify the permissions:
# to execute
chmod 755 SYBASE.sh
# to source
chmod 644 SYBASE.sh
If this doesn't make sense, post back here with the output from running:
ls -l SYBASE.sh
This is looking good and backup server started.
Please check with taking the dump of your database now .
If you face any issue , Please provide the log file "/Sybase/SID/ASE-15_0/install/SID_BS.log" to check further.

Hello,
sybmk1 OS user should already have all Sybase environment variables set and all permissions on Sybase directories and files. This is done by the SAPinst when you install your SAP application on SAP ASE.
Is it possible you are actually logged as mk1adm? This is the OS user for SAP system directories/files/environment variables pointing to SAP directories.
If not, then we should see in the sapinst_dev.log why sybmk1 is not getting permissions and Sybase env variables as expected.

Cris
Thanks Gaurav,
Backup is running but it is taking more than the normal time.
Earlier it took 40min for 50GB, but it is still running more than 3 hours and status at 85% only.
May know the reason for this?
Regards
Suresh
Hello Dinakar,
Try this
./SYBASE.sh
It should work.
HTH,
Gek
Hello,
Problem is not about permission on SYBASE.sh but on shell directory /bin/sh.
Anyway, as you're logged with syb<SID> user it shouldn't be necessary to execute the SYBASE.sh.
Sybase environment variables are already set for this OS user.

Suresh,
Can you please provide the log file "/Sybase/SID/ASE-15_0/install/SID_BS.log" and the RUN_SID_BS file to check further.
You can add 512 MB memory using "-m 512" in the RUN_SID_BS file and restart the backup server again. Check the performance again.
Hi Maria,
As you said it shouldnt be necessary to execute the SYBASE,sh, but if i install any other component like DBISQL or SCC later i should execute the script else i wont be able to launch the tools...
which i think is true.
After ignoring the error "pemission denied" i tried starting the backup server and the primary using the command startserver. i was able to connect to the database using isql -Usapsa -SMK1 -X command. Later i installed DBISQL and SCC. i tried to run dbisql but no go... it was asking to set the DISPLAY variable which i did but still no go..
Surprisingly i was able to execute . SYBASE.sh using root, then everything i.e dbisql started working.
